Machine Learning

INREM is developing prototypes of machine learning based models for solving problems related to Water quality and health. Here we have a few such early stage models which tackle the problem of Water testing, Detection of dental fluorosis and identifying if a Water source is safe based on colour markings.

We look forward to partnerships for developing each of these into more robust solutions that help serve needs on the ground.

Some of our key products are highlighted here. For more information, you may visit.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Water test : Testing water with colour changing reagents is one way to check water. These colour changes correspond to indication of safety of water. Generally, doing these tests to the community helps in generating more awareness. By providing these photos to a machine learning algorithm, we have trained it to help detect water safety. Here, we have achieved an early stage accuracy that can help in digital detection of water quality. You may please test and and provide us feedback. Class 1 here corresponds to water safe from fluoride and Class 2 corresponds to water with high fluoride. These tests need to be conducted with a Zirconyl alizarin colour change test.

Dental fluorosis : Fluoride in groundwater is a problem that is spread across India. However lack of data makes it difficult to detect it in water everywhere. Fluoride leaves a mark on teeth called Dental fluorosis that especially happens in young children and stays mostly for life. Detecting these stains on teeth is one way to test for water in a community. Here we have trained a machine learning algorithm to detect these Dental fluorosis stains. The prediction right now is at a very early stage of accuracy. Here Class 1 corresponds to severe Dental fluorosis and Class 2 corresponds to mild or no Dental fluorosis. You can test the tool with teeth images and give us feedback.

Water source safety : One way of helping community identify safety of water is by having public health authorities mark water sources with particular colours. The colour indicates the safety of water. The colour coding changes across India and having a tool to digitally indicate water safety can be useful. Here we have trained the water sources with colour coding using a machine learning algorithm. Class 1 corresponds to Blue here indicating safe water and Class 2 indicates colour Yellow which is unsafe here. You may use this tool and provide us your feedback.
