The partnership with UNICEF in Rajasthan was centered on devising comprehensive mitigation strategies for water quality issues, particularly fluoride contamination, through a systems strengthening approach. Drawing insights from the integrated fluorosis mitigation (IFM) practices in Jhabua, the partnership prioritized intensive capacity building of both government and non-government stakeholders across the health and water supply departments in Rajasthan.

This initiative resulted in the establishment of the District Fluorosis Mitigation and Coordination Committee (DFMCC) in all districts of the state, serving as an institutionalized mechanism under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Fluorosis (NPPCF) in Rajasthan.
Presently, the partnership has shifted its focus towards the concept of water safety planning, aligning with INREM’s broader objective of fostering water-safe communities.

Project Goals

Capacity building of government stakeholders towards water quality, health and nutrition linkages.

Generate evidence for integrated approach towards mitigating and addressing water quality and health problems.

Strengthened review and monitoring mechanisms for NPPCF Program.

Major Outcomes

District Fluorosis Mitigation and Coordination Committee in 33 districts of the State institutionalised within the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Fluorosis (NPPCF).
